Following a tradition of circa 130 years and over five decades as a state institution, the only ensemble of its kind with an uninterrupted existence, the Jewish State Theatre in Bucharest has a distinctive profile, representative both for the Romanian theatrical movement and for the contemporary landscape of Yiddish theatre.

Established after the Revolution with the help of the Ministry of Culture so as to answer the need for a new children’s theater, Excelsior Theatre has been operating under the authority of the General Council of Bucharest Municipality since 1999. Juggling between traveling throughout the country and abroad (in France, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland) and shows in Bucharest, the theater continues to present colorful, lively and interactive musical performances to children of all ages.

Since 1964, Ion Creangă Theatre is the go-to place to (re)discover childhood stories that inspire and bring joy to the whole family. A public institution that hosts performances for children aged 0 to 12, the repertory theater is subordinated to the Bucharest General Council and annually welcomes a public of more than 50.000 in Bucharest and across the country.

Odeon Theatre, one of the leading theaters in Bucharest, was founded in 1946 under the name Giulești CFR Workers’ Theatre. Its current headquarters is proud to welcome its public in the only auditorium in Europe with a sliding ceiling, Majestic Hall. Over time, its actors and performances were awarded, both locally and nationally, while its education and training programs echoed at European and international levels.

The Țăndărică Puppet Theatre was founded in 1945 and renamed The Țăndărică Animation Theater in 2008. Recognized as an institution that imposed new ways of expression in animation theater, this institution has undertaken numerous tournaments throughout its history, participating and winning awards at festivals across almost all continents. Famous for its Ţăndărică Nocturnes, the events of artistic resistance against the Communist Regime, Țăndărică is currently responsible for organizing events like the International Theatre Festival of Animation “Joy For Children. Collection Shows”, or the “Theatre, Street, Child” Summer Festival.

The Comic Opera for Children was launched in 1998 as an independent company that became an artistic state institution under the aegis of the Bucharest City Hall in 2003. Bucharest Housing Stories

Bucharest Housing Stories is a documentary series about diversity of the housing experience in Bucharest and the neighbouring surroundings. The project is composed of seven episodes focused on different dwelling spaces and housing forms – blocks from the Communist period, new residential areas, ghetto neighbourhoods, dormitories, public spaces (homeless living), former nationalised houses and homes from suburban areas – and follows the diverse experiences of 21 characters. The project aims to document the cultural diversity of housing and living practices in the Romanian present day urban area. Each episode released on the platform focuses on the diversity of vicinity experiences, on routine and on the relationships developed with the dwelling space by people with different profiles.
