Between May 15 — July 15, the second part of the project — Exploring the City —invites you to pass over the capital’s grey layer and helps you discover the lively, diverse and surprising side of Bucharest.

The project launching the bid of the city of Bucharest

to the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021

Bucharest is not a city that reveals itself at a first glance, but rather invites one to explore. You must first pass over the capital’s grey layer, over an amalgam of old buildings and tiled giants, over stifling traffic jams and passers-by’s indifference, to get to decode its urban labyrinth. Between May 15 to July 15 the second part of the project — Exploring the City — captures aspects of the city’s everyday life in a kaleidoscope of events. Beside the usual cultural happenings the public is accustomed to, the European Cultural Center of the Capital at ARCUB Gabroveni hosts a number of dedicated events.

These events are designed in the context of the city’s candidacy to the European Capital of Culture 2021 title. They will be joined with partner events that take place across all corners of Bucharest as well as by specific actions that converge the same spirit. The Memory phase actions will continue throughout the summer, inviting citizens to participate in the emotional mapping of the city by contributing with personal photos and videos of the past and the present. We invite you to discover, rediscover and let Bucharest take you by surprise!
